Kagiso Maleka, construction contracts manager: Corestruc

After matriculating, Maleka studied to become a civil engineering technologist. Before joining Corestruc, he worked for a civil engineering company which, coincidentally, worked with Corestruc to fast-track the completion of a 50ML reservoir in time for the 2010 Fifa World Cup tournaments in Polokwane. He also ran his own civil engineering construction company.

The aspects of his job he most enjoys are interacting with the team over morning coffee, reporting on progress being made on projects and trouble-shooting. “Working as a team, there hasn’t been a single challenge we haven’t been able to overcome. Most of our innovative precast concrete solutions are due to extensive trial and error. As a result, we’re years ahead,” he says.

“We’re willing to take calculated risks to solve municipal service delivery challenges. We have a full order book and there’s a lot to be positive about, including the many up-and-coming blackowned contracting companies working with us to innovate a faster and more cost-effective way of building high-quality water infrastructure that will continue to add value over its 100- year usable life. By harnessing our technology, they’ve entered new markets that were previously dominated by a handful of companies and are now at the forefront of precast concrete innovation in SA. That’s real transformation!” he says.
